Description: GBICs are hot-swappable input/output devices that plug into a Gigabit Ethernet port to link the port with the fiber-optic network. Built for long reach applications, the 15454-GBIC-LX or "LX" model operates on single-mode fiber (SMF). Check the label on the GBIC carefully to be sure you are installing the correct type because GBICs are very similar in appearance. The 15454-GBIC-LX fully complies with the IEEE 802.3z 1000BaseLX standard and operates on MMF optic link spans of up to 550 m in length or SMF optic link spans of up to 10 km. The Cisco ONS 15454, a carrier class optical transport platform, brings all the functionality of multiple SONET multiplexers, optical networking, and switching network elements together in one easy-to-use platform. The beginning of the Cisco ONS 15454 broad portfolio is its ability to support flexible topologies: Point to Point, Linear Add/Drop, Rings, and Mesh. This evolutionary platform supports a broad variety of service interfaces, including TDM (DS1, DS3, DS3 Transmux, EC1/ STS1), data (10/100Mbps Ethernet), and optical (OC3/3c, OC12/ 12c, OC48/48c.) All optical bandwidth and optical services are deployed on demand by exchanging interface cards.
